| Description | The entry into force of Law No. 7/2011 (Lei n.º 7/2011 of Mar 15, 2011) transferred the procedure from the courts to the Civil Registry Offices (Conservatória do Registo Civil). The requirements for surgery, sterilization, lack of children, and single status were abolished. Under Articles 2 and 3 of the law, the procedure required: Portuguese citizenship, legal age, lack of legal incapacitation, and the submission of a medical report diagnosing "gender identity disorder" (perturbação de identidade de género). The report had to be issued by a multidisciplinary clinical sexology team and signed by at least one physician and one psychologist. The registrar had 8 days to issue a decision (Art. 4(1)). |
